Job Summary

The Center for High Performance Computing is looking for an intern to work with our networking staff to collaborate on newSDNnetwork tools such as SDNTrace (collaboration with University of Houston) and active measurement tools in a network virtual world (collaboration with Indiana University and Dept of Energy Energy Sciences Network Advanced Tech group). Collaborations will also

exist with the UofU School of Computing Flux group, the UofU campus Network

Operations Center, and the Utah Education and Telehealth Network.

The research ideas are creating new approaches to utilizing the networks in a dynamic manner. This intern position will work with the research collaborations to explore the engineering aspects of the projects and ask questions such as:

a) Are we able to utilize these research ideas?

b) Are we able to realize these ideas in actual production network

implementations?

c) How might a production network environment utilize these ideas for

troubleshooting and enhancing the networks?

Responsibilities

  • Setup various OpenFlow controllers
  • Setup test environments inGENInational lab environment
  • Develop test harnesses for tools and dynamic network implementations
  • Document test plans according to industry standards, i.e. Device under Test RFCs, etc.
  • Write up observations for the local and national communities, i.e. Univ. ofUtah Center for High Performance Computing, Univ of Houston NetworkingCommunications program, Indiana Crest, ESnet, Internet2, etc.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

Required:

– Able to work in a group setting on a common project where tasks are identified and assigned

– Experience working in a Linux Environment

– Some basic experience with Python or other scripting language

– Demonstrated technical writing skills

Preferred:

– Some experience in basic networking or programming
