Job Summary

The Division of Epidemiology within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah, seeks aPRN(as needed) Medical Records Data Analyst to utilize medical knowledge for review of medical records and other information under the direction of principal investigators. The position involves performing annotation and/or chart abstraction, along with using tools and methodologies to capture data that advances research. Training will be provided. This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Responsibilities

•Successfully learn how to annotate and abstract using specific tools and methodologies.

•Review (and adhere to) guidelines for each project; communicate with managers as warranted.

•Effectively and efficiently search for medical concepts within medical notes, (e.g. identify diseases, symptoms, medications, tests, and relationships, as well as indicate the clinical reasoning that takes place given a use case).

•Work independently to meet deadlines for both project-specific and non-project tasks.

•Implement and perform quality measures to ensure adherence to established standards.

•ObtainHIPAA,IRBCITIcourse training certifications, and all other required training certifications. Maintain ongoing training certifications as required.

•This position has no responsibility for providing care to patients.

Minimum Qualifications

RN license in the state of Utah plus two years related experience required. Depending on area of assignment,CCRP,ACRP-CRC,SOCRA-CCRPcertification may be required. A current Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Card certification or obtain one within 6 months of employment required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.

The hiring department may also prefer experience in a specific area of nursing

Preferences

•Two or more years of clinical experience

•Comprehensive clinical domain expertise

•Proficient in medical terminology

•Experience with use ofEHR/EMR

•Computer literate

•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

•Ability and willingness to follow instructions, juggle multiple simultaneous projects, and work in a fast-paced high-throughput environment

•Eligibility for Department of Veterans AffairsWOCstatus (must be able to pass a VA background check).

•Ability to function effectively as a member of a team
