The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a full-time Addiction Psychiatrist to join its faculty. This position offers participation in clinical care and education in our growing Addiction Psychiatry Program and may also involve investigation, depending upon candidate experience and interest.

Candidates will have a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry with rank based on academic experience. Faculty provide clinical services to the University Neuropsychiatric Institute (UNI), a state-of-the-art inpatient facility located in the University’s Research park and to a number of satellite outpatient clinics along the Wasatch Front.

Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Utah (or be eligible for licensure) and have expertise in inpatient and/or outpatient addiction psychiatry. Obtaining board certification is a requirement for retention.

Completion of a residency in Psychiatry, and current enrollment in good standing or completion ofACGMEcertified Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship is required.

The candidate must be board certified or board eligible in Psychiatry and be board eligible in Addiction Psychiatry upon hire.

Responsibilities:

Clinical Care:

•Use excellent clinical skills in addiction psychiatry in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting in the area of substance use disorders, including novel treatment modalities.

•Show a strong commitment to clinical care as well as demonstrated clinical aptitude.

•Call is an expected clinical responsibility for all faculty. Provide cross coverage for vacations and meetings. Specific assignments will be coordinated through the Division Chiefs of Psychiatry.

Investigation:

•Participate in or lead quality improvement and research efforts.

Education:

•Engage in patient care activities with learners. (Learners include fellows, residents, medical students, and physician assistant students)

•Provide mentorship and didactic teaching at the medical student, resident, fellow, and faculty levels.

Administration:

•Administrative duties associated with the clinical care provided.

•Administrative service to the Department of Psychiatry and the Medical school, including peer review and participation on committees, may be requested.

The percentage of effort spent in education, investigation and administrative activities in addition to clinical practice will be negotiated annually. Specific assignments will be coordinated through the department’s Division Chiefs.
