Chief, Division of Physician Assistant Studies

The University of Utah’s Division of Physician Assistant Studies seeks applications for the position of Division Chief. This is a unique opportunity for a highly-qualified applicant to lead a division which includes a PA program ranked for over 15 years in the top 5 PA programs nationally. The Chief is responsible for the overall vision and direction of the division’s academic program, clinical activities, and research enterprise. The University of Utah PA Program is one of the founding U.S. PA programs, nearing 50 years of success, with one of the longest continuing accreditation records in the US. This program is a state, regional, and national resource, serving the health care needs of the Intermountain West and beyond. We are committed to training PAs to provide high quality health care and access, with a focus on providing patient care in medically underserved and rural communities. The PA Program is establishing a PA program in St. George, Utah, on the campus of Dixie State University.

The successful candidate will:

•Have a minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in PA education, preferably having served as a program director or associate program director;

•Current certification(s) are required. If the candidate is a PA, then s/he must hold currentNCCPAcertification and minimum of a Master’s degree (doctoral degree in a health-related field is strongly preferred. There is an opportunity for tenure-track appointment for candidates interested in a tenureable position;

•Have a successful record of facilitating and mentoring 15+ faculty in teaching, service, and research, and a record of scholarly work and/or funded grants that will encourage continued national distinction of the division;

•Articulate a clear understanding of PA education, the Standards required to maintain accreditation through the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and, more broadly, the role of PAs in the delivery of quality team-based health care;

•Demonstrate leadership experience in complex organizational structures including: administration and management, strategic planning, financial management and planning, and personnel management;

•Work with the department chair and division chiefs to collaborate, develop, and execute strategic goals for the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the Division of Physician Assistant Studies;

•Have experience working with academic partner institutions and other external constituents;

•Possess a clear understanding of the importance of diversity for an academic health center and the ability and skill to help lead the institution towards achieving its strategic goals for diversity;

•An outstanding track record of academic accomplishments, service, and scholarship commensurate with the Division’s current mission that will encourage continued national distinction.

The Division of Physician Assistant Studies is housed in the University of Utah’s Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM), in the School of Medicine. As part ofDFPM, the Division of Physician Assistant Studies is enhanced by the complementary Divisions of Family Medicine, Public Health, and Occupational and Environmental Health. The chief reports to the Department Chair.
