New Position to Begin 7/1/2018
The Department of Writing & Rhetoric Studies at the University of Utah seeks a senior scholar at the rank of Professor to join us as Department Chair effective July 1, 2018. The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of relevant scholarship, a record of highly effective teaching, and administrative and leadership experience. The Chair will lead a relatively new department with a growing undergraduate major and longstanding interdisciplinary graduate programs. The Department is also responsible for first-year writing instruction, cross-curricular writing initiatives, and the University Writing Center. Scholarly strengths include composition and rhetorical theory, (critical) discourse analysis, gender, Indigenous rhetorics, literacy studies, multilingual composition, science studies, digital rhetorics, andWAC/WID. Salary is competitive.
The Chair is responsible for working with the faculty to articulate a departmental vision; departmental budget; assessment and supervision of curricula and teaching; representing the Department to the College, the University, and the community; and mentoring junior colleagues. The Chair serves a three-year renewable term. Faculty teach two courses per semester, with the chair receiving a two course per year teaching reduction. Ideally, the successful candidate will contribute scholarly expertise in one or more of the following areas: digital rhetorics and/or composition, culturally diverse rhetorics and/or literacies, or professional/technical communication.
