Ensure the provision of consistent, efficient, high-quality inpatient care from admission to discharge. Support the teaching mission of the Orthopaedic Surgery residency program with the Orthopaedic Trauma team.
Inpatient: Review admission orders for patients admitted to orthopedic trauma service, complete discharge paperwork and teaching, assist residents with dressing changes/wound checks at needed, perform daily interaction with physical therapy team and anticoagulation teaching for patients; maintain daily interaction with general surgery trauma service, internal medicine team, infectious disease team, thrombosis team and other specialty care teams; provide daily interaction with social work, discharge planning, and patient families to chart a course for timely discharge; arrange clinical follow-up for orthopaedic trauma.
OR: Complete pre-op history and physical and obtain consents daily by 0700 on same day admission patients; position and prep first assist cases on Wednesday and Friday mornings.
Research: Assist in the enrollment and consent process of study-eligible patients with the orthopaedic trauma research staff; participate in the collection of data from databases and clinical records; execute the final submission of articles for orthopaedic trauma attendings to peer-reviewed journals.
Clinic: Provide cross-coverage of clinic responsibilities when the Orthopaedic TraumaAPC(Clinic).
Competency: Maintain competency inEPIC, fundamentals of patient evaluation, performance of history and physical examination.
Quality: Complete one quality improvement project per calendar year.
The chosen candidate must obtainATLSandACLSwithin 6 months of hire. The employee shall be credentialed to perform the following procedures/activities: fracture reduction and splinting, joint aspiration, traction pin insertion, in-hospital consult, response to trauma activation, and tertiary examination of trauma patients.
Current licensure to practice as a Physician’s Assistant from the State of Utah. Certification inACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLSmay be required by your department or by privileging criteria. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
Utah State prescriptive privileges preferred.
To obtain licensure requires graduation from anARC-PA approved/accredited Physician Assistant program. Specialty experience preferred on a position by position basis.UHPPM1-56 requires that newly hired non-physician providers apply for credentialing and privileging at the time of hire.

Experience at the University of Utah may be helpful but is not required.
