Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics in the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for an Outpatient Services Specialist. The Outpatient Services Specialist is responsible for providing excellent customer service and facilitating and ensuring the accuracy of the information flow between medical, hospital staff and divisions within the Department. This position is housed in a call center, separate from clinic locations.

Responsibilities

Outpatient Services Specialist (Health Information Management):

•Research and report duplicate accounts. Verify demographics.

•Review and mail clinical notes for multiple divisions within the Department.

•Enter health information into patients’ Electronic Medical Record.

•Manage incoming faxes for multiple divisions and distribute to appropriate areas.

•Manage correspondence to and from internal and external customers.

•Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of continuous office experience or equivalency; basic computer skills; and successful completion of a medical terminology course provided by the hospital within the first year of employment required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Experience withICD-9 andCPT4 coding may be preferred.

One year experience in patient registration, admitting or related work may be preferred.

Preferences

•Typing skills and ten key by touch

•Health information management experience

•Fluent Spanish speaking skills

•Epic and/or Help2 experience

•Knowledge of medical terminology

•Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
