Job Summary

The English department is recruiting for a friendly, customer oriented Office Assistant. This person will serve as the public face of a busy and successful academic department. S/he will have savvy social media skills that will help us attract the best students and make our accomplishments known to the general community.


•Answer phones, direct foot traffic

•Collect/distribute mail

•Purchase supplies and keep track of their delivery

•Keep breakroom and waiting areas neat and presentable and serve as department’s liaison with custodial services.

•Maintain all faculty/staff contact info

•Update faculty office hours

•Re-organizing public filing systems; keep front desk area neat and organized

•Maintain all faculty evaluation and syllabi folders

•Serve as the lead trouble shooter on classroom technology problems

•Serve as the lead staff person at especially busy times in the academic calendar

•Assist with developing flyers and other promotional material

•Assist the Manager with submitting IT trouble tickets

•Assist the Manager on key inventory (submitting requests for new keys, collecting keys when assignments are completed, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalency required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
