This individual will act as the support staff person for the Preprofessional Advising Office, within the Academic Advising Center. In addition to functioning as the Office’s “front-line” reception person, this person will also make and track student appointments with the academic advisors; will be involved in planning ongoing programs for the student population served by the Office; will update the Office’s web page and student handouts as needed; and will track financial transactions. Other related duties may be assigned.
Receives and greets students and other visitors to the Preprofessional Advising Office in Building 44.
Answers telephones, providing assistance and directing customers to the correct person or office.
Processes and distributes mail.
Schedules student appointment (with academic advisors), utilizing electronic calendar software.
Answers general inquiries relating to the processes involved in applying to various professional programs (medicine, law, etc.)
Provides support to 2-3 advising professionals and one student advisor within the Office.
Assists with word processing, data entry, and web site management.
Coordinates visitations from representatives of professional programs.
Maintains office equipment; arranges for service calls as needed.
Maintains regular correspondence with students through weekly newsletter/announcements.
Within the scope of assigned authority, makes necessary purchases for the Office; tracks expenses and balances for two accounts, providing summary reports for the assistant director as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalency required. One year full-time customer service experience or equivalency, demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Excellent communication skills and ability to prioritize tasks; computer skills to include experience with software (Microsoft Office) and maintaining / updating web pages.
