Business hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Work schedule consists of four 9 hour shifts and one 4 hour shift. Hours may vary based on operational needs.

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking experienced Medical Assistants to join our Ambulatory Clinical Care operation. The ambulatory group consists of 14 pediatric subspecialty divisions and service lines. Our positions are designed to develop and provide professional growth opportunities for Medical Assistants who support multiple pediatric subspecialties. Clinic locations include Primary Children’s Hospital Outpatient Services Building (81 Mario Capecchi Dr,SLC, UT), Riverton Hospital (3723 W 12600 S, Riverton, UT), and the University of Utah Allergy Clinic (525 E 100 S,SLC, UT). Incumbent must be willing and able to commute and work at all clinic locations.
1.Prepares patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures according to clinic procedures such as recording temperatures, pulse rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse oximetry, height/weight, and responses to standardized medical history questions.
2.Recognizes and appropriately responds to emergency situations.
3.Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to a licensed staff member.
4.Performs Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Waved Lab tests as identified by department and reports results to the appropriate personnel.
5.Performs additional duties such as suture removal, injections (IM, Subq and intra-dermal),EKG, and allergy skin testing.
6.Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested. Assists provider with procedures, treatments and interventions.
7.Monitors and cleans assigned patient examination rooms, unit areas and unit equipment. Restocks set levels of medical supplies. Reports outdated supplies and necessary equipment repairs.
8.Under the direction of licensed staff and providers, schedules appointments, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
9.Assists in routine clerical functions such as filing medical information in patient records, locating and compiling department charts, obtaining medical records from other providers/offices, etc.
10.Attends and completes mandatory education including infection prevention and control, safety,CPR, equipment usage and procedures according to hospital and department policies.
11.May assist with patient and family education by providing educational material and general health information to patients and family members.
12.May assist with transportation of patients to ancillary departments or inpatient units as directed by licensed staff and providers.
13.May perform other related duties as assigned.
Care coordination and office functions:
1.Schedules, coordinates and monitors appointments, inpatient/outpatient admissions, tests and treatments/procedures.
2.Maintains medical records and other information. Accurately documents patient history, physical and vital information in the medical record.
3.Maintains inventory of medications or supplies used to treat patients.
4.Conducts pre-authorizations in accordance with third party insurer requirements.
5.Effectively uses computer applications as needed in the office setting.
Completion of a certified Medical Assistant program or current certification as anEMT- Intermediate in the state of Utah is required. Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or obtain one within one month of hire; demonstrated phlebotomy skills and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. Demonstrated proficiency in the specific clinic’s specialty skills within six weeks of hire is required. Specialty skills may not be performed until after the new hire completes competency testing.
Hiring department may prefer Medical Assistant Certification or Registration.

•Three or more years experience in an outpatient clinic environment
•Previous experience in a pediatrics or family practice setting
•EMRand scheduling experience with Epic, Cerner, or Help2
•Effective communication skills, both oral and written
