The Manager of Prospect Management is responsible for implementing policy and process to improve cross-campus fundraising communication, coordination, planning, and fundraiser activity tracking. The position actively supports the university’s fundraising efforts by working closely with fundraisers around campus to optimize their donor prospect portfolios, track significant university-wide future fundraising plans and activities, and summarize fundraising activity for campus leadership.
The Manager of Prospect Management is responsible for implementing policy and process to improve cross-campus fundraising communication, coordination, planning, and fundraiser activity tracking. The person in this role implements process, monitors, and intervenes to improve prospect portfolio health and size for campus fundraisers—working closely with them to make their prospect portfolios accurately reflect their plans and efforts, and helping ensure they are working with the best prospects. The Manager also works extremely closely with the Prospect Research and Prospect Analytics functions of the Development Office to accommodate prospect pipeline building, maintenance, and progression. This position designs, implements, and documents process and framework for tracking, coordinating, and forecasting future major/planned gifts that are being cultivated to coordinate the university’s overall fundraising efforts. The Manager of Prospect Management designs and initiates system and reporting changes to help support campus leadership in the tracking of fundraising performance metrics. This person takes a lead role in both the integrity and maintenance of all prospect-related data in the university’s advancement database.
The position requires the use of extreme discretion as it involves working with highly confidential information. The Manager also has the responsibility of keeping abreast of industry best practices and advising in the purchase of necessary systems and tools. This position is responsible for taking a lead role in regular Prospect Management-related training and presenting to campus-wide development staff. In addition, this person serves as a liaison with university leadership in Prospect Management-related matters.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency and 4 – 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.
Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

Specific Departmental Preferences: Bachelor’s degree or equivalency; At least five years of experience in either the prospect management, prospect research, and/or prospect analytics fields; Experience managing large prospect research/management/analytics projects across a team of analysts; Demonstrated experience with advancement relationship management systems; Excellent reading, writing, and editing skills and an ability to analyze and synthesize complex information; Strong organizational skills and attention to accuracy and detail; Fluency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook; Demonstrated interpersonal skills and effective communication; Sense of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
Specific Preferences: At least five years of experience in Prospect Management in higher education settings—preferably those with significant front-line fundraising staffing and mature prospect management programs; Experience using Ellucian Advance; Deep experience and knowledge of non-profit fundraising; Experience supervising and training others; Understanding of basic statistics and comfort working with quantitative data; Familiarity with relational databases, data modeling, and data mining.
