University of Utah Health Manager, Outpatient Surg Materials in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

This position manages the operations and strategic planning of human resources, customer/patient services, and financial management for planning, organizing, directing and controlling all aspects of functional areas of Outpatient Surgery Material Services, including inventory management, distribution of services and supplies in the OR storage rooms, receiving functions in the various OR locations, and equipment management. In support of the organization's goals and mission, the incumbent supports the Outpatient Surgery Materials Coordinators / Facilitators in leading the functions of their area and acts as a catalyst between the department and its customers, and staff, to ensure continuity and quality of service.


Job Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Performs to required standards for job specific responsibilities and technical competencies.

  • Management and submission of TAC - Technology Assessment Committee requests.

  • Responsible for setting up Supply chain functions for new Outpatient Surgery locations, to include initial capital equipment order/placement, supply, ordering, inventory system template build out in INFOR Lawson MMIS system, and physical shelving system layout and setup.

  • Coordinate item/charge number adds for both INFOR Lawson and EPIC systems.

  • Hiring and training of new outpatient Materials Coordinators/Facilitators.

  • Inventory management - identifying best practices, inventory review and control.

  • Responsible for cost savings initiatives, and other innovations for individual locations and outpatient as a whole.

  • Member of OR VAT team and Outpatient VAT team chaired by Value Analysis team. Individual will be responsible for coordinating all supply requests for outpatient areas.

  • Member of Product Standards & Evaluation Committee.

  • Hiring, training, developing, and communicating with staff.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for developing, monitoring and achieving budget goals.

  • Manages labor and non-labor expenses to budget or flex budget.

  • Manages revenue to budget to maximize potential revenue.


  • Responsible for patient satisfaction scores within assigned area(s).

  • Responsible for upholding PROMISE standards of direct reports and team members.


  • Responsible to achieve quality goals for assigned area(s).

  • Manages and promotes continuous process improvements in assigned area(s).

Performance Management

  • Responsible to provide staff feedback on performance, including on-time appraisals and coaching.

  • Responsible to deal with conflicts in a proactive manner and to reach resolution in a timely manner.

Building Relationships

  • Forms positive relationships with staff, peers, and senior leadership to support the mission, vision, values, and performance standards of the organization.

  • Actively engages staff with updates and news as well as involving staff in decisions and work teams. Provides feedback and recognition when appropriate.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates, to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

  • Knowledge of assigned department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan, and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors.




  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalency.

  • Four years of more progressively responsible management experience.

Qualifications (Preferred):


  • Master’s degree in a related area, or equivalency.
