Job Summary

Red Butte Garden is seeking a Landscape Crewleader for an assigned area including the Terrace and Water Pavilion Gardens


This is a working supervisory position responsible for the management and care of an assigned area within Red Butte Garden. including the living plant collections held within. Responsible for identifying, prioritizing and implementing required maintenance needs in the assigned area living plant collection and the training and supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers in performing those duties. Duties include: landscape designs, plant installation, all aspects of maintenance and preservation care for assigned areas and their living plant collections, snow removal, event support and all other duties as required to support the mission of Red Butte Garden.

Assures that maintenance activities do not impact scheduled private and/or Garden events. Hires, trains and supervises seasonal employees; provides performance feedback and disciplines as necessary. Assures gardening practices are water and resource wise. Assures safe practices, operation of equipment, applications of pesticides as necessary.

Participates in various committees including the Design & Maintenance Committee, Collections Committees, and responds to public inquiries about plants and water-wise gardening.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in a related field and two years experience related to the area of assignment; a valid Utah Driver’s license; and a Utah Pesticide Applicator’s license required. Dependent upon area of assignment, a Utah Commercial Driver’s License class B may be required.


STRONGLYprefer a Bachelors degree in Horticulture, related field or equivalent. In addition, three years of experience in horticulture with focus on ornamental plant care, particularly culinary herbs and medicinal plants; demonstrated landscape design skills, and three years experience in supervision.

A commitment to provide excellent customer service, demonstrated human relations skills, demonstrated communication skills, verbally and in writing, able to operate equipment common to the trade, and moderate computer skills.
