We seek a detail-oriented work study student to work in the Entomology/Malacology Collections at the Natural History Museum of Utah. Tasks will include inventory, curation, clerical work, and lab work. A background in entomology and/or biology is preferred, but not required. The position will require occasional lifting and moving of items up to 20 pounds, and working with basic solvents and glues in the lab (e.g., acetone and super glue). Candidates should be independent self-starters who are enthusiastic about entomology. Position starting Fall 2017.
Maintains the physical environment of the lab, may file and maintain research records and logs of research data, variety of clerical and lab work, tasks dependent on candidates abilities and interests.

This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Detail oriented and highly organized. Good communications skills. Self directed.
