The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at The University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for an Investigator who shares our vision for excellence in women’s health research. The position will be based at The University of Utah School of Medicine, ranked among the top 30 public research universities in the nation.

Candidates are expected to have completed a PhD in social or biomedical sciences with demonstrated aptitude and passion for data-driven medical research and the ability to form and maintain effective collaborations. Successful candidates will have experience formulating and conducting research studies and publishing manuscripts with the expected ability to obtain external research funding within 2-4 years. While the primary focus of the work will be in research, this individual will have the opportunity to participate in educational and outreach activities associated with the projects in which they are engaged. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience and achievements.

Responsibilities:

•Development of testable hypotheses that will lead to fundable research projects to improve health outcomes for women, girls and their infants across the lifespan

•Maintenance of data collection protocols to ensure consistent high quality data and record-keeping

•Performance of statistical analyses, including selecting the appropriate analysis procedure, setting up data for analysis, judging validity and reliability of data, designing and writing programs to perform analyses, and producing written reports on the result of the analyses

•Collaboration with research and clinical faculty to plan and develop research projects

•Preparation of grant proposals and original research publications

•Mentoring departmental research trainees

•Facilitation of intra and inter-departmental research meetings

•Promote collaborative research throughout the school of medicine, University, and other institutions

Qualifications:

•PhD in social or biomedical sciences

•Demonstrated aptitude for women’s health research

•Prior research publication as first or senior authors in peer-reviewed journals

•Ability to obtain grant funding. Prior funding preferred, but not required

•Innovative and creative with the ability to conceive and implement original ideas

•Clear written and verbal communication skills

•Results oriented with a commitment to successful research outcomes

•Team oriented with excellent interpersonal skills

•Enjoys and is skilled at teaching / mentoring
