Serving as part of the library’s development team, the development officer will help identify, cultivate, and steward current and prospective library donors. This position will help plan and implement fundraising strategies in preparation for an upcoming campaign.
Ability to produce high-quality work on a deadline. Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency; three years of fund-raising experience which includes direct solicitation of contributions, volunteer leadership support, written and verbal presentations, and strategy and market development are required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in grant or proposal writing and a background working with local print and electronic media is preferred. Demonstrated negotiating skills are also preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Previous experience making initial contacts with donors by phone, email, and in person.
Demonstrated ability to estabilsh rapport quickly and create long-term relationships.
Previous experience managing a prospect portfolio.
Experience working with development databases, such as Advance.
Demonstrated knowledge of business correspondence, development materials, and reports.
Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills including the ability to easily change writing styles to fit the audience and voice of the piece.
Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities and projects.
Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a team-based environment.
Ability to organize information for effective presentation in publications, websites, and other media.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people on and off campus.
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated proficiency and capability with information technology systems in the context of an academic library.
Reading, writing, or speaking skills in a second language.
