Job Summary

Building Crew under the direction of the Area Manager/Supervisor. manager/supervisor; products for area needs; covers the service-run for an employee when that person is absent within

the crew area. Assist with on-the-job training with new hires; manage the ordering and stocking of supplies and Verify daily building tasks are accomplished according to University of Utah Custodial Department standards. Write-up monthly evaluations on crew members and area; reports information back to area

Responsibilities

Determines the proper distribution of employees and materials for a particular day’s cleaning problems by inspecting assigned building(s) to insure an adequate cleaning job is done. Gives general supervision by assigning tasks and reviewing work of one to five full-time and/or five to twenty part-time custodians and custodial workers which may be in one shift or two (four hour shifts) depending on the particular needs of the building in question. Regular maintenance of light replacement. Assist in training new crew members in the proper use of equipment and materials by demonstration and suggestion to insure proper application of chemicals and minimum breakdown of equipment. Insures that work standards are being adhered to by inspecting assigned work areas and completing inspection reports for review by supervisor. Insures that assigned work area is secured by inspecting for locked doors in accordance with regulations. Maintains time sheets for individual crew members by filling in hours to insures proper credits for pay purposes. Maintains adequate stock of supplies by ordering as necessary within a pre-established budget guideline. Maintains positive public relations with departments by responding to specific cleaning requests. Reports maintenance and emergency problems to supervisor or police respectively. Performs all duties of custodians as required to insure accomplishment of assigned goals. May back up supervisor by assisting him/her directly or acting for him/her during any absence. Required to be on emergency call during one to two weekends and/or holiday periods per year.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of previous custodial experience; the ability to lift 50 lbs.; the ability to climb a minimum of six feet on an authorized stepladder or scaffolding; and demonstrated oral and written communication skills required. Previous supervisory experience would be helpful.

Additional Qualifications: Must have a valid Driver’s License. Preferred: Strong computer skills, knowledge with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. 1-2 years lead experience, high school diploma (GED). Knowledge and experience withcleaning equipment and supplies; ordering and controlling inventory of supplies
