Job Summary

This position is for an experienced Early Childhood Program Director in anNAEYCAccredited Program. BioKids Preschool and Child Care Program, designed to meet the needs of University faculty and staff, is part of the Department of Biology and operates under the supervision of the BioKids Steering Committee. BioKids serves 32 children between the ages of infancy – 5 years in two mixed-age classrooms. Priority enrollment is given to Department of Biology faculty and staff. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and their families at the University of Utah.

The Coordinator oversees all aspects of program management: budget, staffing, curriculum, enrollment, procurement, parent participation, classroom management and community visibility on campus.

Responsibilities

•Oversees daily program operations and coordinates program activities within the guidelines of the Utah Department of Child Care Licensing.

•Oversees daily program operations and coordinates program to meet the accreditation standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

• Monitors program quality and effectiveness and implements improvement strategies as needed

•Hires, orients, supports, supervises and evaluates all BioKids staff and substitutes.

•Establishes program budget within existing parameters; monitors and approves related expenses to ensure budgeting goals are met

•Works with the BioKids Steering Committee to set tuition and salary increases as well as any programmatic changes.

•Writes and / or edits program related reports and publications: newsletters, Parent Handbook, Staff Manual, monthly / quarterly reports to The Center for Child Care and Family Resources on campus.

•Attends and participates inUEAYC,NAEYCand related professional meetings and conferences.

•Maintains program growth, development, and waitlist to assure that BioKids is fully enrolled.

• Works to ensure best practices are implemented and program quality is maintained

• Develops and implements program goals and objectives within NAEYC developmentally appropriate standards

• Advises staff, students and others regarding program policies, goals and related classroom issues

• Prepares reports, financial statements and records on program status and progress for Advisory Board and the Center for Child Care and Family Resources.

• Assigns, directs and reviews work of support staff

• Assists with grant writing and other fundraising activities

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus one year directly related experience or equivalency required. Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

Preferences

•Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education / Child Development or closely related field.

•Strong preference given to candidates who have leadership experience in anNAEYCAccredited Early Childhood Program; ideally, having guided a program through the accreditation process at least one time.

•Physical stamina necessary for daily interaction with young children, i.e., bending, lifting, and getting up and down off the floor.

•Demonstrated skills / experience in multi-age programming for children and families

•Demonstrated skills / experience in staff orientation, training and evaluation

•Demonstrated skills /experience in computer based documentation of programmatic concerns.

•Demonstrated skills / experience in program administration, including budgeting and grant writing / management.

•A successful candidate must be innovative, goal-oriented and pro-active with both classroom and administrative experience in anNAEYCAccredited Early Childhood setting.
