Job Summary

40 hour per week position to work as staff nurse at The Student Health Center. Start date 5/1/17.

Work comfortably with patients of all ages -birth to over 60 population. Student Health is for U students and their dependents. We are an ambulatory-care clinic dedicated to patient care and education. Student Health is partially funded by student fees and is part of Student Affairs at the U of U.


Provide ambulatory clinical care to a wide-age range of patients. Exercise sound judgment to provide direct patient care in accordance with current nursing standards, established nursing protocols, and provider orders. Perform initial assessment and triage of walk-in patients. Prepare room and patient for examination, take vital signs, perform a brief intake assessment as needed, and assist during office procedures or examination. Administer oral, IM, SubQ, and intravenous fluid medications as ordered by the provider. PerformCLIA-waived in-house lab procedures, venipuncture and preparation of specimens for transport toARUPsatellite and record management. Maintain reliable personal record of attendance, punctuality, and dress standard to ensure a positive role model for otherSHCstaff.

Minimum Qualifications

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah or equivalency required. *If licensed in a compact state a Utah State license must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card or must obtain one within one month of hire required.

Strong organizational and leadership skills as well as demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Some positions may require additional certifications such as Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one year of hire.

Good I.V. and phlebotomy skills needed. Minimum of one year general medical/surgical nursing experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered.
