Job Summary

Sports Dietitian

University of Utah Division of Nutrition and Athletic Department

The University Of Utah is currently seeking applicants for a full time Sports Dietitian. We will be accepting applications until the position is filled.


•Assist the Director of Sports Nutrition in providing performance nutrition education and counseling to University of Utah student athletes.

•Oversee the operations of two Fueling Stations for student athletes.

•Act as the primary point person for collaborating with the Dining Hall to develop high performance menus.

•Assist in supervising sports nutrition fellows, graduate students and volunteers.

•Coordinate medical nutrition therapy for specialized conditions such as: anemia, celiac disease, diabetes, disordered eating, food allergies, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, injury, illnesses, menstrual dysfunction, etc.

•Conduct new athlete nutrition screenings and hydration testing.

•Collaborate with the medical and performance staff for vitamin D, ferritin and body composition testing.

•Develop and present team sports nutrition education sessions.

•Provide menu planning, travel nutrition and half time fueling education to teams.

•Provide education on banned substances and supplements.

•Understand supplement and feeding bylaws as defined by theNCAAand the PAC12.

•Collaborate with the sports medicine team of athletic trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, team physicians, mental health professionals and food service personnel.

•Develop programs to assist athletes with life skills such as cooking, shopping, menu planning and time management.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science or a related field, or equivalency; two years of clinical/practical experience; demonstrated human relation, computer literacy, and effective communication skills; and completion of a hospital provided supervisory training program within the first year of employment required. The incumbent must be a Registered Dietician with the American Dietetic Association; and possess current certification with the State of Utah or obtain certification within one month of employment.ADACertification in a specific area of specialization may be preferred.


•Registered Dietitian (RD) for a minimum of 2 years

•3+ years of experience working with athletes

•Master’s Degree in nutrition

•Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) or eligible

•Ability to work a non-standard workweek which may include nights, weekends, and holidays

•Excellent oral and written communication skills

•Strong interpersonal skills

•Excellent time and priority management skills

•Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments

•Ability to work as an integral part of the sports nutrition team
