Job Summary

Provides tutoring in assigned subjects to youth at East, West, Horizonte, Kearns, and/or Highland high schools after schools & Saturday morning on the university campus. Occasionally assist with transportation of students, aid in activities & workshops.

Responsibilities

Acts a mentor to students, helping them with their classwork needs in tutoring, assessment, and other duties as assigned. Training will be provided. Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; a willingness to take direction from the academic advisors; willing to take/pass the university fleet services test to drive university vehicles. Subject to Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check. Human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.

Minimum Qualifications

This is an entry-level position. Training will be provided. Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; a willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher; willing to obtain a food handlers permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check, first aid training are required. Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.

Preferences

Strong academic background in writing, mathematics, science and other high school coursework. Good communication skills and experience working with youth. Transportation to the target schools required; mileage for personal vehicle use reimbursed.

Must be at least 20 years old or junior status and have some experience tutoring. Those majoring in education or have an education background are highly preferred. Applicants should be innovative and creative and enjoy working with adolescents from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds and academic skill ranges. Persons who have exceptional skills in writing, math, science, foreign language are preferred. First aid training also preferred.
