This position provides pastoral, spiritual and ecumenical care and support to patients, their families and staff.

This position is not responsible for providing patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Responds to calls from units regarding spiritual and pastoral needs for patients and family.

  • Establishes and nurtures outside networks of members of the religious community to ensure specific spiritual and emotional needs of patients are addressed by appropriate ecclesiastical persons.

  • Organizes and promotes religious services for patients, their families and staff including weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing and coordinating bereavement needs.

  • Provides orientation to community clergy, volunteers and staff relating to services available by pastoral care staff.

  • Meets with direct patient care staff prior to visiting with patient and family to understand scope of needs and how to support multi-disciplinary treatment team.

  • Participates on committees and with the educational mission of the hospital.

  • Ability to adhere to separation of church and state requirements as addressed in the Utah State Code.

  • Demonstrated respect and support for individual faith groups.

  • Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Required

  • Candidate must be eligible or possess BCCI Certification through the Association of Professional Chaplains. Certification through NAJC or NACC will also be considered.
