Breast Imaging, Section Chief

Description: The University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking applicants for the Section Chief of Breast Imaging. This position is a full-time, physician-scientist, tenure track. The academic appointment will be at a rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor. This position reports to the Chair and oversees the section operations of Breast Imaging. This individual is expected to make a significant impact in the field of Breast Imaging through innovations and to contribute to a collegial environment that will promote the academic and clinical growth of the section. The Section Chief’s responsibilities include: to organize clinical services and innovate care delivery; to initiate and expand research programs; to support and engage in teaching for residents and fellows; and to advance quality improvement programs and value initiatives. The section is known for highly integrated value-driven practice and care delivery innovations. The Section supports an outstanding Breast Imaging fellowship program. The Department is known internationally for its excellence in educational innovations and imaging research. Depending on the candidate’s academic experience, a departmental leadership position will also be considered.

Qualifications: The candidate should be Breast Imaging fellowship (or equivalent)-trained in all aspects of clinical breast imaging. Outstanding clinical and interpersonal skills are a prerequisite. The candidate should have a strong academic interest and prior evidence of research productivity. Active engagement in investigational research and extramurally funded research projects is desired. Prior experience in leadership positions is desired.

Facilities and Institution: The breast imaging section provides clinical services for the University hospital, Huntsman Cancer Institute, anNCI-designated premier cancer center, and multiple outpatient centers throughout the Wasatch front. There are also opportunities for expanding coverage with plans for a new multispecialty outpatient center to be built in the future. Extensive imaging resources are available for both clinical work and research, including multiple MRIs with breastMRIbiopsy capability, dedicated breast US units with elastography, a tomosynthesis guided biopsy system, intraoperativeMRI,PET-CT scanners, and innovative breast localization techniques. Pre-clinical imaging resources, such as microPET-MRIand 7TMRI, are also available. The section has also fostered close collaborative relationships with multiple departments including surgery, oncology, and pathology. Research opportunities abound, with a broad case mix from the sources described above, as well as the world-class unique support provided by the Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR) in the Department.UCAIRoffers international expertise in imaging sciences, including basic sciences, physics and engineering,MRIresearch, and CT andPETresearch.
