Assistant Professor in Illustration

Position: The Department of Art & Art History at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Illustration at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting date and appointment July 1, 2018.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have anMFAor equivalent terminal degree with exceptional skills in Illustration with mastery in both traditional and digital media. Applicants should have a strong professional record of industry experience, creative research practice and excellent teaching methods; with a solid understanding of the history of illustration, and the drive and curiosity for discovering the new and innovative. We seek applicants with a clear vision of the role of illustration in current industry applications, and the ability to draw on their research and professional practice in order to integrate these perspectives and methodologies into the classroom.

Responsibilities: The Department of Art and Art History in the College of Fine Arts offersBFAandMFAdegrees in Studio Art. The new faculty member will collaboratively develop an Illustration Emphasis & Minor curriculum with department faculty that reflects marketplace needs for innovative visual interdisciplinary approaches. The successful candidate can expect to teach a 2/2-course load per calendar year.

Candidates are expected to teach beginning to advanced level courses to undergraduate and graduate students and work independently withMFAcandidates. Additional program administration, includes portfolio reviews, advisingMFAcandidates in various art disciplines and assisting with recruitment of the undergraduate and graduate program. Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop and engage in a robust creative research and teaching agenda in addition to supporting the service mission of the program, department and the University of Utah.
