Under supervision of a Senior Admissions Counselor, the Admissions Counselor will contribute to the overall recruitment efforts for the Office of Admissions by managing a recruitment territory and planning and implementing activities for attracting and matriculating new students to the University of Utah. The Admissions Counselor will also assist with coordinating transfer student recruitment strategies.
1.Manage an assigned recruitment territory, which includes: developing/maintaining relationships with and providing service to high school personnel; attending college fairs and visit high schools; completing requisite paperwork prior to and after the completion of a recruitment trip; and making necessary travel arrangements.
2.Assist prospective students in gathering the necessary information they need to make an informed decision about the University of Utah and navigating the various processes and offices to enroll at the University of Utah.
3.Read, evaluate and make decisions on application files.
4.Assume responsibility for the management and oversight of a territory budget.
5.Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the recruitment plan for assigned area of responsibility in transfer recruitment (description below) for the Office of Admissions to support the enrollment goals of the institution.
6.Provide follow-up correspondence and individual counseling to prospective students via in-person meetings, e-mail, telephone, and U.S. mail.
7.Participate in office recruitment activities and special events.
8.Conduct group presentations and campus tours.
9.Assist with other duties assigned.
The Admissions Counselor will assist with the transfer recruitment efforts for the Office of Admissions and will be responsible for ensuring that transfer students are aware of the opportunities available at the University of Utah through outgoing communications and recruitment activities (visits and programs). While the primary focus will be on transfer student populations, this position will also ensure that veterans and non-traditional students are being serviced through the recruitment process.
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years’ related experience, or equivalency. Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze and make decisions related to program content. Strong coordination and organizational skills required to prioritize conflicting deadlines. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
Select candidate will be willing to work evenings and weekends and travel overnight in- and out-of-state approximately 3-6 weeks annually.

Preference will be given to candidates who: possess excellent customer service, oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with culturally and ethnically diverse populations; have the ability to communicate complex information to multiple audiences and speak in front of large groups; demonstrate problem-solving and time-management skills; have a valid drivers’ license. This position frequently addresses problematic situations regarding admissions and student recruitment and often acts as a mediator or a negotiator. A major task for this position is to understand the needs of various constituents and determine what actions will best meet those needs. Also desirable is an understanding of higher education, and specifically, the value of public higher education. Preference will also be given to those who have Admissions/Recruitment experience at a regionally accredited university.
