Advises a diverse population of students in regards to their academic planning and progress by utilizing professional advising and guidance skills. Acts as assistant to the Academic Program Manager for the Academic Standards program.
Academic advising of undergraduate students in all relevant areas – academic standards, course requirements and selection; major exploration and decision-making; policies and procedures; new freshman and transfer issues; and other appropriate areas (on average 60-70% of time will be spent directly advising undergraduate students).
Assisting coordinator of Academic Standards program with program planning and implementation, training, updating records, data collection and interpretation, advisor education (on advising strategies for academic standards), organizing events for students, creating and managing content for website, and conducting learning outcome assessments.
Maintaining current knowledge of campus resources, critical dates, and policies and procedures for undergraduate students.
Maintaining regular contact with assigned outreach partner, keeping current on relevant activities, regulations, and developments, and communicating these to the Academic Advising Center staff.
Participating in professional development activities, including intra-office and campus-wide advisor training, and (when appropriate) professional conference.
Participating in collaborative activities and ventures with other University departments and offices.
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.
Previous experience in an advising, counseling or teaching environment is preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
Master’s degree; at least one year academic advising experience; knowledge of undergraduate education issues; experience in learning development, learning skills, data assessment; academic coaching; and demonstrated experience working with students facing academic difficulty.
